Multi-talented Robot Violinist

Toyota’s violin playing robot

The idea of robotic help either at home or at work may not be limited to science fiction after all. Toyota have recently released a new robot that is dexterous enough to play the violin.

While not a master performer the small robot can play a pretty good rendition of Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance, proving the just how well it can coordinate it’s fingers and arms. Toyota state their goal is to make robots that can be used in everyday life, and this latest release continues on from the trumpet playing robot released 3 years ago. The intention is for this robot to help out in nursing homes or in medical care generally, it’s manual dexterity would allow it to be very useful in the caring professions.
