Teddy to watch over you
5 December 2007, by Heavens Paradox

This could be the future for the young and the elderly. A robotic teddy bear companion that will recognise it’s owner and interact in a limited fashion.
The teddy will also be fitted with sensors so it can alert nearby staff to any potential problems, adding an extra level of care for the very frail. The project is being developed by a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, they are hoping to have a prototype ready to trial early next year. If this works it could spell a new era in care for the elderly and for sick children. The teddy bear will provide constant monitoring while also encouraging some interaction from the patient.
