Why do we need guns at all?

I was shocked to come across this article discussing the latest gun fashion in America - pink guns for girls! Personally I think they should be discouraging gun ownership, not actively promoting more guns on the streets - especially not as a fashion accessory!

I have never liked guns, and sincerely hope we never get a gun culture here in the UK as they seem to have in the USA. I have no problem with self defence, or with hunting - however, I really hate guns! They’re too easy to misuse & you hear far too often of ‘accidents’ involving guns.

I don’t see why America needs to encourage girls to buy guns, certainly not why they should be turned into a fashion accessory. They should be left plain & utilitarian, so as to discourage people from owning one unless they have a real reason to need one.
