Yet another postal strike
8 October 2007, by Heavens Paradox

There is yet another postal strike scheduled to start early today as the talks over the weekend have failed to reach any conclusions. It seems a useless action to me though, as the strikes are costing Royal Mail millions - which is leaving them even less likely to be able to afford the pay rises & pension plans the union is demanding
The range of communication methods has grown at a staggering rate over the past few years, as technology became cheaper and smaller and entered our everyday lives. While most of us still do send letters regularly I expect we also use email to cover a lot of what used to be sent via post. When you add this together with the loss of the monopoly Royal Mail used to enjoy it is no surprise the company is in trouble.
It seems to me the unions should be accepting that the world needs to change, they can’t keep on as they have been and should be working with Royal Mail to minimise the impact. Not adding more financial issues to the already overburdened company - which could cause them all to lose their jobs anyway!
